The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) officially launched the new Aadhaar App on 28 January 2026, reinforcing India's commitment to a privacy first and citizen controlled digital identity framework under the Digital India initiative.

A major highlight of the new Aadhaar App is Aadhaar Offline Verification, a secure identity verification mechanism that allows authentication without accessing the central Aadhaar database. This approach eliminates the need for photocopies, online authentication, or data storage risks ensuring complete user consent and control.

As part of this national milestone, UIDAI recognized a select group of organizations as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) under the Aadhaar (Authentication and Offline Verification) Regulations, 2021.
