The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur recently organized an expert lecture on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, highlighting its potential to revolutionize various industries.

"The department of computer application at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur recently organized an expert lecture titled 'Artificial Intelligence and Data Science'. The lecture, delivered by Dr. T.V. Vijay Kumar, professor and dean at the School of Engineering, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi, emphasized the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive a new industrial revolution.

Dr. Kumar compared the current era to the fourth industrial revolution, driven by AI and the Internet of Things (IoT). He explained the difference between strong and weak AI, noting that initial expectations of AI replicating human behavior were unrealistic and warned about the potential of AI to diminish human capacity for simple tasks.

The expert speaker discussed various applications of AI, including smart mobility, manufacturing, and disaster management, sharing insights from his participation in UNESCO's AI forum on disaster management. He also reviewed NITI Aayog's AI policies for healthcare, agriculture, and education, stressing the importance of India's advancement in the field.

Dr. Kumar suggested leveraging AI to assess and support student behavior, and explored the complexities of big data, focusing on real-time analysis and the paradigm shift exemplified by Google Maps.

The lecture was attended by chief guest Dr. Prabhat Diwan, dean (R&C), Dr. Priyanka Tripathi, head of the Department of Computer Application, and Dr. H. Bikrol, professor, Department of Computer Application.
