A U.S.-based company, eTrue Technology, has announced the launch of a groundbreaking multimodal biometric webcam and software that ensures high accuracy by capturing both dual iris and face images. As part of Personavera LLC, eTrue has introduced the Fusioncam, which is designed to be a more accurate, smaller, and more affordable solution compared to traditional iris and face biometric systems.
The Fusioncam is designed to be mounted on a laptop and connects through USB to deliver biometric accuracy with a minimum of 20 zeros (FAR<1E-20). This level of false acceptance rate (FAR) exceeds the expectations for national- and global-scale programs, according to the company.
Michael Braithwaite, the founder of Personavera and a biometric technology developer, explains, “The goal was to engineer an iris camera that stretches the field of view into a full-face cam, while still preserving high iris accuracy.” The company emphasizes that the product can be used in various applications, including banking, patient identification, login, government services, and benefit access.
Test data supports the claim that the universal mean fusion performance will exceed 50 zeros, or FARÎĽ (mu) less than 1E-50, with a false rejection rate (FRR) near 1 percent, according to Braithwaite. The authentication process takes four seconds or less, with the higher end of the average time mostly taken for subjects wearing glasses.
The Fusioncam represents a significant advancement in biometric technology, offering a compact and cost-effective solution that meets the stringent accuracy requirements of large-scale programs. With its dual iris and face biometric capabilities, the Fusioncam is poised to revolutionize the way organizations and individuals secure their data and access sensitive information.Â
