Access Control OSI Model

Media access control

Media access control is a sub layer of data link layer of OSI reference model. Media access control sub layer is considered to be the layer 2 in data link layer. Media access control uses some sets of rules that govern the communications in the network and it is the interface between the logical link control layer and the physical layer. This means that media access control communicates with both logical link layer and the physical layer. In short media access control provides a physical way of communication.

Media access control also provides channel accessing mechanism and addressing techniques which is the unique identifier that has been assigned to the network.
