Unlike retinal scan, iris scan technology uses mathematical pattern-identification techniques on the captured image of the iris of a person’s eye. These patterns are complex and unique, and each individual has an inimitable iris pattern.
Iris scanning technology captures high-contrast image of an individual’s iris. In order to do so, the iris must be 3 to 10 inches from the capturing device. After capturing the image, an iris scanner analyzes the patterns and converts them into a code. Iris technology is also used for immigration processes in order to authenticate passengers on the airports.
