Eye scan or retinal scan is a biometric system that identifies a person by using unique patterns of the retina. Human retina contains a complex blood vessel (retinal vein) patterns through which an eye scanner device can easily identify a person, and can even differentiate identical twins. To scan human retina, retinal scanner uses the reflection of light that is absorbed by retinal vein.
Retinal scanners are commonly used in various intelligence agencies and government sectors for authentication and identification. Eye scanner is now becoming popular day-by-day in commercial sectors and is used in ATMs, prisons, etc. for identity verification. Unlike other identification devices such as fingerprint scanner, retinal scanner commits fewer errors and is more effective.
